WALKING is mans best medicine.

Of all the paths you take in life, make sure a few of them are dirt

The Llanishen footpaths group has had a busy year clearing, repairing and surveying footpaths.

Welcome to the Llanishen Footpaths Group

The Llanishen Footpaths Group has had a productive and rewarding year, contributing 255 volunteer hours to clearing, repairing, and surveying the footpaths in our village and the surrounding countryside. Thanks to this hard work, our local network of paths is more accessible, better waymarked, and more enjoyable for everyone who walks them

On our monthly working days, volunteers have:

  • Installed 11 waymark finger posts
  • Repaired or replaced 7 stiles
  • Installed 2 metal gates
  • Replaced 2 bridges and repaired another
  • Added numerous waymark arrows
  • Cut back vegetation, strimmed overgrown areas, and removed fallen branches to keep routes clear and safe

Get Involved

We’d love to welcome new helpers, supporters, and walkers. You can get involved in several ways:

  • Join our WhatsApp group to stay informed
  • Come along to a working day – we meet at the Village Hall at 10am on the second Thursday of each month
  • Help us survey local paths by reporting any issues to Neil (a photo and a map pin or clear location description are ideal). We’ll aim to fix what we can, log issues with Monmouthshire Council, and add them to our work programme
  • Enjoy one of our mapped walks – see below

We were delighted that the group was named runner-up in the Best New Group category at the Monmouthshire Volunteer Awards—a wonderful acknowledgment of everyone’s commitment and effort.
